The use of graphite is most effective as a preliminary design or concept tool for generating creative discussion. A rough sketch conveys a visual impression of the thought process in a loose and organic sense. Many small vignette sketches can be produced in a short time and yet have a dramatic effect.
The use of bold strokes and strong contrast can make for a dynamic first impression of the design concept and allows for the input and comment of your target audience. Pencil renderings can also have a very soft and warm feel using subtle light and dark value changes.
